Private in Public
Technology has greatly influenced our styles of living over the past decades, the goal of this project was to explore new bounds of living spaces in an increasingly more public and nomadic society.
Intentions
Technology and its impact on all areas of life and living also greaty shape our ideas of living and home. Increasingly globally connected work environments force us to take a flexible approach of what we consider our home. One might even argue, Society going back to its puristic, nomadic roots, taking our belongings with us as we move on. The project Private in Public aims to explore a new way of living based in a far distant future, where our living space is imagined as a fluid omnipresent structure, responding to the users needs. Codename "The Mist". Due to a prototype being based in our current reality, having to obey the laws of physics, we focused on the core aspects. An omnipresent open system which responds to the users need for privacy. After experimenting with different shapes and forms the cone was chosen. Its ability of being able to be combined with other cones up to a 360 degree flat plane made it able to display a gradual change in ones privacy. The newly discovered aspect of combining different individual structure to one connected was a perfect fit to the approach of an open adaptive space structure. The prototype would still be controlled by the user through an app, while the living space of the far distant future would sense the needs of the user through the integration of AI. The relation between humans and AI, was another big matter throughout the project. A dualistic distinction between AI and human intelligence will not hold up to a far distant future or as Phillipe Morel puts it: "In fact, it is quite probable that the intelligence of the future will be integral and that it will not recognize the usual natural vs artificial and physical vs biological distinctions". We tried to capture our ideas of human AI interaction in a story book which you can visit at the bottom.
